MERRITT'S STORY
The decade of the 1970's is renowned for hard drugs, bad music, and worse clothing. Wars raged in Southeast Asia and the Middle East. The US suffered through an energy crisis and Saturday Night Fever. Basically, a lot of bad sh-t went down. When things looked like they couldn't get any worse, on November 2, 1976, Jimmy Carter was elected the thirty-ninth president of the United States - but all was not lost. On that fateful day, I was born in Chicago, Illinois.
Two years after my big arrival, my sister Caitlin was born, and we faced the eighties together as my parents moved around more than a redneck with a brand new RV. The Oil Industry took my family from Chicago to Colorado, to Kansas, back to Colorado, back to Illinois, back to Colorado, then to London and to Egypt. My youngest sister, Philippa was born in 1987 during a layover in the Heathrow Airport on our way someplace or other. When we were not moving all our posessions around the globe, we were doing our best to see every corner of it. We skied in the French & Swiss Alps, drove through most of Western Europe, snorkeled in the Red Sea, lounged in Cyprus, sculpted in Dubai, and even ran a sailboat aground in the Solent (nice one Dad). By the time I arrived ěhomeî to Colorado after Egypt, I had seen more places than most people see in a lifetime.
In 1995, I got off the Big Gile Moving Express, which was on a 5 year sabbatical in Colorado before departing for Chicago, Scotland, and Houston, and went to college. I moved all my gear to Carnegie Mellon in Pittsburgh, PA and started hittin' the books. While I was in the process of studying day and night and never having any fun, I met Alison...

HOW WE MET
Alison and I met at Carnegie Mellon University during our freshman year. I was a mouthy pledge at Phi Kappa Theta, and Alison was one of the house's buggy drivers. We got to know each other slowly over the next couple years. Unfortunately, I was saddled with another girlfriend and Alison with other boyfriends for most of our college careers. This prevented us from going out until senior year, even though we hung out a lot. During senior year, we were slackers, and had no classes on Fridays. We used this opportunity to go out on the town every Thursday night. We began 'dating' at the end of our senior year. The rest, as they say, is history.
